A Note to Veteran Warlords Players

There are a lot of Warlords websites on the Internet. I wanted to make something a little bit different to fill a niche that I did not think was filled.

I started playing Warlords in the early days of Warlords 1 on the Amiga (yes - in my bedroom playing hotseat games with a few friends!) but then I forgot about it until I was given a copy of W3:ROH. I set up a 5-way multiplayer game with my brothers and some friends.

I then bought W3:DLR and set up a game. I was frustrated when my rather 'fantasy realistic' Dwarf army was totally outclassed by a mish-mash of good and evil units that was rather well put together by my mate Dodz. I found a Word document on the web which discussed how to create theme armies and I was inspired!

We discussed this 'theme armies' idea in the pub and in the end we decided to create some rules to allow us to make 'realistic' armies. Since then we have played a couple of games and the FRAD Guide was born. As we learn more about the game we have amended the Guide.

I now feel ready to expose this resource to the Warlords community and hope that some veteran Warlords may feel inclined to play some multiplayer 'fantasy realistic' games.

I play on the Russian 'Universal Warlords League' and played a game against Mythlord. He soundly thrashed me but we had some good discussions about my FRAD ideas. He is such a wizard at Warlords (already having made a HUGE add-on called 'Legion of Blood' some time ago) that he wanted to take my ideas further. He is currently working on 'The Promised Land' which will be another massive add-on to Warlords. His aim is to make 11 fantasy realistic armies and then run a PBEM league using them. I am looking forward to it! In the meantime maybe the FRAD Guide will suffice!

This web site will continually be under development but I have a full-time job (as an IT trainer) and I also have a social life so don't expect rapid changes, after all - it's only a game!

One thing I will be doing next is introducing the K4 heroes and StormHeim units to the FRAD Guide. At the moment I haven't used them in games so I need to play a few games first. I far as I can see the K4 Heroes will have the same alignments as the current Heroes do. The StormHeim units will have to be studied more carefully so that they can be given an alignment and racial type without unbalancing the game. One thing that concerns me at the moment is the bias against Good armies. Any ideas on how to fix this would be appreciated!

I realise that the FRAD Guide will not suit all players of Warlords. The real-time online game is quite a different beast that I do not play (no time and no inclination!) so that FRAD Guide may not work for players of this. Also there may be some players that may  criticise the Guide because it limits some elements of the game. I do not usually enjoy playing 'hidden mode' games because in a large multiplayer game you can easily spend a few turns with not much to do while some of the other players fight it out in some distant part of the map. To not see these battles would be a pity! So the FRAD Guide pays little notice to hidden mode needs. Another thing I may add to the site is a section covering  'Fantasy Realistic Options Setup' that will probably lean heavily towards the 'open mode' of play. You may not like this style - each to their own! Maybe you can take what you like from Fradland and leave the rest.

So happy Warlording and please e-mail me if you have some ideas for either the web site or the FRAD Guide.

Thanks,

Lord Batz
